Over $1 million up for grabs in nature refuge grants

More than $1 million in grants is now available to help nature refuge owners in Queensland protect the environment and repair severe damage caused by recent natural disasters.

Queensland Environment Minister Meaghan Scanlon said landholders could now apply for a share in $800,000 as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Nature Refuge Landholder Grants Program for projects like weeding and revegetation, pest animal and plant management, or the installation of wildlife-friendly fencing.

$50 million to reduce impacts of coastal erosion

The Albanese Government will invest in 34 projects nationwide worth $50 million across the nation to further strengthen communities and local economies against the risks and impacts of disasters.

Through the Coastal and Estuarine Risk Mitigation Program, the funding will go to state and territory governments to target projects such as the construction of rock seawalls and nearshore breakwaters, large-scale beach erosion protection, building the capacity of coastal land use planners and improving community awareness of coastal hazards.

Disaster assistance for flood impacted primary producers in New South Wales

Primary producers affected by ongoing flooding in New South Wales can apply for recovery grants of up to $25,000 as part of the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements. 

The grants are now available for eligible primary producers in the Local Government Areas that have been disaster declared from the most recent storm and flood event.

The assistance is available for the immediate clean-up and recovery costs to repair extensive damage to properties.

More communities now disaster declared

Joint-funded disaster assistance is now available in an additional 11 local government areas (LGAs) following severe flooding across New South Wales which began on 14 September 2022 and continues to impact significant parts of the State.

The LGAs are Bega Valley, Junee, Muswellbrook, Nambucca Valley, Shoalhaven, Snowy Monaro, Snowy Valleys, Temora, Walcha, Yass Valley and the Unincorporated Area of New South Wales.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management, Senator the Hon Murray Watt, said the support would help councils and businesses get back on their feet.

Disaster assistance available for more Victorians

Extra flood support will be provided to Victorians, to help recover from the October floods. Another 4 local government areas (LGAs), and 1 Alpine resort area are now eligible for a range of Commonwealth and Victorian Government funding.
