Our key national partners generate and share best practice knowledge to ensure the Agency and decision makers more broadly are able to apply best practice knowledge when taking practical and sustainable action to reduce disaster risk.

Australian Climate Service

The Australian Climate Service (ACS) was established on 1 July 2021 as a world-class service with detailed climate and disaster risk information to help Government better anticipate, manage and adapt to climate impacts.

ACS is a partnership, made up of world leading science, information and expertise from the Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It brings the Commonwealth’s extensive climate and natural hazard information and data into a single national view.

Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience

The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) delivers services through a contract with the National Emergency Management Agency. AIDR services include professional development, networking, knowledge management and thought leadership in relation to disaster risk reduction and resilience.

AIDR connects and supports a variety of stakeholders in all sectors across the built, social and economic environments, placing it in a unique national position to build and share knowledge and experience in Australia and abroad.

Natural Hazards Research Australia

The Australian Government is strongly committed to investing in long-term, critical research into natural hazards, including bushfires. As part of that commitment, the Government is providing $85 million over ten years for a new natural hazards and disaster resilience research centre, Natural Hazards Research Australia (NHRA).

NHRA is funded through a Commonwealth grant administered by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) through the AusIndustry Grants Hub.

The National Emergency Management Agency, together with DISR, have joint responsibility for the grant and will continue to work with NHRA to ensure it delivers its objectives.

NHRA was established on 1 July 2021 to deliver world-leading research to inform how we move better prepare communities to deal with disasters, and develop technological solutions to mitigate risks.

The NHRA is now working with emergency service agencies, researchers, industry and the community to develop a long-term research program that will deliver solutions to contemporary challenges and tangible benefits to all end users.

Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), is Australia’s National Science Agency and a key partner of the National Emergency Management Agency, providing practical science information and advice to build disaster resilience.

Through the Disaster Risk Reduction Funding Package, CSIRO is delivering the National Bushfire Intelligence Capability to develop relevant bushfire hazard mapping products for a wide range of infrastructure ranging from residential housing to critical infrastructure.
