Delivering programs to reduce the impact of disasters and increase resilience across Australia

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) leads the Australian Government policy approach to disaster recovery and resilience. In alignment with these policies, the Agency delivers a range of programs to reduce the impact of disasters and increase the resilience of our communities and the nation, now and into the future.

Having been established in response to the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements, the Agency's programs closely align with the priorities identified by the Royal Commission.

The National Emergency Management Agency works closely with communities recovering from disasters, while also investing in programs to protect communities against future disasters.

NEMA recognises that communities are often much better equipped to build back better when we have collectively taken actions to strengthen recovery capacity and decision-making prior to a disaster. As such, we are continuing to embed better planning for disaster recovery in our programs and activities.

We aim to bring hope and confidence to individuals and communities that the National Emergency Management Agency is here to help their recovery in tough times, as well as making sure that we are all better prepared for future natural hazards that will inevitably come.
