Using our new website accessibility tool

With increasingly intense and frequent natural hazards, our Agency recognises the importance of removing the barriers to accessing information on government support for emergencies and disaster events.

We understand how crucial it is for us to consider the challenges and preferences of the Australian community in accessing emergency and disaster related information.

To improve the ability of all Australians to access our information we’ve introduced new website accessibility functionality that allows users to customise nema.gov.au to best suit their needs.

Using our new PageAssist website accessibility tool

We have added the PageAssist widget to our website to give visitors with different abilities custom control over the way they experience our site.

PageAssist makes real-time changes to our site in order to make it more accessible. You can set colours, fonts, font size, cursor size, text spacing, default contrast, formatting, and more, making it easier to navigate the website and access support.

Functions like the font change uses a specifically designed typeface to support users with Dyslexia, and the ability to parse on-page navigation and change the contrast and colour scheme helps those with visual impairments.

To use the tool, look for the accessibility icon in the bottom left of your screen. Click on the icon to open the panel and select your preferences. To revert to the original display scroll down within the panel and click on “Reset view”.

Visit our site often? Your computer will remember your preferences so you don’t have to set them each time you visit nema.gov.au.

Supporting diverse audiences online

Our website aims to meet the Australian Government's online standards relating to access for people with disabilities.

If there is data or information that you require and it is in a format that you cannot access, or if you experience any other accessibility difficulties, please contact us at digital@nema.gov.au or write to us so we can help:
