Support for farmers and small businesses impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper

The Albanese and Miles Governments have announced further assistance for Far North Queenslanders impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Disaster assistance for Tropical Cyclone Jasper has now been extended to more areas, to help residents and local Councils cover response and reconstruction costs.

The Federal and Queensland Governments have activated further support under jointly funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Loans available for bushfire hit primary producers in Far North Queensland

Farmers and primary producers in Cook, Mareeba and Tablelands affected by recent bushfires will now have access to operational loans to aid their recovery.

The Federal and Queensland Governments continue to activate bushfire assistance for Far North communities affected by the blazes of October and November.

Bushfire Royal Commission recommendations completed

Australia is better prepared for the current disaster season, with the Australian Government delivering all Commonwealth-led recommendations from the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements.

In response to the extreme bushfire season of 2019-2020, the Royal Commission made 15 recommendations that were to be led by the Australian Government.

Those recommendations have now been completed.

National Large Air Tanker deployed to protect Australians during bushfire season

The next piece of the Australian Government’s preparations for Australia’s 2023-24 Summer has been unveiled, with the deployment of the National Large Air Tanker (LAT) to fight fires across the country.

Today’s unveiling is a significant boost to our national aerial firefighting capability during this High-Risk Weather Season.

The National LAT, which will be prepositioned across Australia, based on the areas of highest risk or concern, is a Boeing 737 operated by aerial firefighting specialists which can carry and drop up to 15,000 litres of retardant or water. 

Local services $9.1 million boost to aid in flood recovery

The Australian and New South Wales Governments have given flood-affected districts a welcome boost with almost 60 service providers and non-government organisations sharing in $9.1 million in grant funding to assist with recovery.

The NGO Flood Recovery Program is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

New Fitzroy River Bridge opens six months ahead of schedule

The New Fitzroy River Bridge in Western Australia’s Kimberley region has officially opened to traffic, more than six months ahead of schedule.

The completion of the project marks the official reconnection of East and West Kimberley, after the old Fitzroy River Bridge was irreparably damaged in the historic Kimberley floods in January.
