Over $1 million in financial assistance already paid out to Far North Queenslanders

$1M in Hardship Assistance grants have already hit the ground in Far North Queensland. Grants are still available for people impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper in the local government areas of Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Cook (specified localities), Douglas, Hope Vale, Mareeba, Tablelands, Wujal Wujal and Yarrabah People needing financial assistance or emotional support can contact the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349 or visit Queensland Disaster Support and Recovery​ website.

Flood-affected families move into new temporary accommodation

The program to install family-friendly temporary accommodation for flood-affected Fitzroy Valley communities in Western Australia’s Kimberley has achieved another significant recovery milestone.

Families in the Fitzroy Valley communities of Bungardi, Darlngunaya, Burawa, Fitzroy Crossing, Karnparmi, Loanbun and Muludja, whose government-owned and managed homes were flood damaged, have started moving into the newly installed temporary accommodation units.

Tourism recovery to lure visitors north to Cairns in new year

  • $5 million for immediate support for tourism industry and operators in impacted areas.
  • Funding will deliver hardship assistance for eligible tourism businesses.
  • The package will include incentives for visitors with discounted flight and accommodation offers.

Eligible tourism operators impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper and flooding events will have immediate access to a $5 million tourism recovery package.

Recovery support for fire-affected Narrabri community

Disaster assistance is now available in the Narrabri Local Government Area (LGA) following impacts of fires in the Pilliga State Forest that started on 8 December 2023.

The assistance measures are being provided by the Albanese and Minns Governments through the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

$64 million package for Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper disaster recovery

The Federal and Queensland Governments have announced a fourth round of support to help recovery and resilience for Far North Queensland communities impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

The package, estimated to cost $64 million will be cost-shared 50-50 by the Federal and State Governments. It will support recovery for FNQ’s vital tourism industry, farmers, small businesses and not for profits. It includes:

$4.1 million for flood impacted supply chains

Five New South Wales agriculture processing businesses will be supported to help keep primary industry supply chains moving under Round 2 of the jointly-funded Supply Chain Support Program.

The program enables flood-impacted agriculture processing businesses and co-operatives impacted by the February and March 2022 floods, to rebuild, repair and improve resilience with funding provided through Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Support for farmers and small businesses impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper

The Albanese and Miles Governments have announced further assistance for Far North Queenslanders impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Freight subsidies are being made available to primary producers in some of the hardest hit areas to alleviate the costs of moving stock and operating materials.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council has been activated for funding towards counter disaster operations and the reconstruction of essential public assets like roads and bridges.
