Brisbane Road eastbound lane reopens at Bundamba

Both eastbound lanes along Brisbane Road are now open following repairs after the embankment slipped into the rail corridor during the major deluge across south-east Queensland in February and March 2022.

The repairs were jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, (DRFA).

More time for Victorian farmers to apply for flood assistance

Farmers in Victoria affected by last year’s storms and floods now have more time to apply for flood recovery financial support, including grants of up to $75,000, concessional loans and assistance with transport costs.

Delivered under the Primary Producer Flood Recovery Package as part of a suite of financial support valued at over $300 million, the support package is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Primary producer loans and more disaster recovery assistance for hail-impacted Victorians

Victorian primary producers in the City of Greater Shepparton and the Yarra Ranges Local Government Areas can now apply for concessional loans of up to $250,000 following a hailstorm event on 23 March this year.

The loans are part of a range of assistance jointly funded by the Albanese and Andrews Governments through the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Getting communities back up and running after a disaster

The Albanese Government is showing national leadership in the face of increasing natural disasters by establishing a national stockpile of emergency housing, generators, potable water and other equipment and services communities need during and after a disaster.

The $8.6 million National Emergency Management Stockpile (NEMS), funded in the 2023-24 Federal Budget, will provide reliable, readily deployable life sustaining resources for state and territory governments to meet the acute needs of disaster-impacted communities.

Building a reliable national flood warning infrastructure network

The Albanese Labor Government will invest $236 million over 10 years to establish a national, reliable flood warning network.

Communities, emergency services and businesses need reliable access to flood forecasts and warnings, to help them prepare and respond to flooding events. This investment will improve reliability and consistency of flood data, forecasts and warnings.

More support delivered to strengthen Kimberley flood recovery

More Government support has been extended to flood-impacted communities in the Kimberley, with local recovery officers to be stationed in the region, and more financial aid rolled out for ongoing clean-up work.

The Albanese and McGowan Governments will jointly fund Community Recovery Officers and Cultural Navigators to be placed in Fitzroy Crossing and Derby Community Recovery Hubs, as well as pop-up hubs and outreach services in Bayulu, Kupungarri, Camballin and other impacted communities.

Flood funding grants to boost community-led recovery and resilience projects

Queensland communities impacted by flood events in 2021-2022 will be able to share in up to $16.7 million funding for community-led recovery and resilience projects, with applications now open under the second round of Flexible Funding grants. 

Grants will be open to non-government organisations, research bodies, industry groups and peak bodies, community groups, and Local Governments on 3 May 2023. 

Temporary emergency accommodation solution to get Northern Territory flood victims home

The Albanese and Northern Territory Governments have implemented temporary emergency accommodation solutions to help flood victims from Kalkarindji, Daguragu and Pigeon Hole to return to Country as the dry season commences.

In Kalkarindji and Daguragu, 16 demountable ‘pods’ are being installed for residents homes that require major repairs or complete replacement, with the first families already on site this week (Wednesday, 26 April).
