Our work

We lead the Australian Government's approach to reduce disaster risk.

We're in charge of implementing the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework.

The framework describes the work needed to:

  • address current disaster risks
  • minimise new risks
  • supply improved climate and risk information.

Thinking ahead

The risk landscape is changing:

  • natural hazards are more frequent and intense
  • the financial impacts of a changing climate are growing
  • people, livelihoods and assets are more vulnerable
  • interconnected essential services result in complex, long-term damage.

The cost of disasters is rising. We can no longer assume the stability of our natural, social and economic systems. As risk increases, our resilience decreases.

Reducing disaster risk is crucial to build resilience now and in the future.

Working together

We collaborate with governments, industries, and communities to reduce the impact of disasters.

We supply national leadership, guidance and funding.

By working together, we create a safer, more resilient nation now and in the future.
