Australia can experience severe weather at any time during the year, however, between October and April we are most at risk of bushfires, heatwaves, flooding and tropical cyclones. We call this period of the year, the higher risk weather season (HRWS).
Every year NEMA runs a National Preparedness Program.
This program briefs key stakeholders on the sesonal outlook. It also briefs them on the capabilities of the Australian Government. This ensures everyone makes informed planning and preparation discussions.
For the first time, we are sharing some of this information with the public.
This video includes:
- the Bureau of Meteorology’s Seasonal Outlook,
- information about Australian Government response and recovery capabilities, and
- important information about heatwaves – a big risk for the community this year.
We all need to work together to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural hazards. Workng together is essential to build resilient communities and reduce the potential for harm.
