The Australian Bushfire and Climate Plan provides a broad plan and practical ideas. It's intended for governments, fire and land management agencies and communities to mitigate and adapt to worsening fire conditions.
The plan was developed over June and July 2020 during the first bushfire and climate change summit. The summit was hosted by ELCA and involving more than 150 experts and community members. The guide discusses the impact of climate change on bushfires. Which includes the need for:
- improved land management,
- enhanced firefighting capabilities,
- national coordination,
- community resilience,
- recovery strategies.
It provides 165 recommendations which include many measures that can be implemented right now, to ensure communities are better protected.
