Emergency response plans

Government Roles

States and Territories

In Australia, state and territory governments take care of:

  • people
  • property
  • the environment in their areas.

They have plans for:

  • handling emergencies
  • recovering from emergencies

Federal Government

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet helps too. They keep the Australian Government Crisis Management Framework (AGCMF) up to date.

It supports other emergency plans that we manage.

During emergencies, the government can also give physical help.

NEMA's role

We help with:

  • government disaster help for states and territories
  • state and territory responses to overseas disasters (if asked by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade)

We also have different response plans for state, territory and international governments responding to emergencies.
