Budget 2024-25, for the third consecutive Budget, invests in measures that address the increase in severe and frequent natural hazards brought on by climate change.
This investment includes a focus on enhanced emergency response capabilities and risk reduction and resilience at national, community and individual levels.
The 2024-25 Federal Budget:
- Delivers a greatly enhanced national aerial firefighting and broader emergency response capability, increasing funding by $35 million over the next two financial years;
- Provides almost $27 million over 3 years to sustain and mature the national Stockpile of emergency goods and services for use by state and territory governments during large scale and prolonged disasters;
- Invests in mental health support for emergency services workers; and
- Secures ongoing funding for the National Emergency Management Agency so that it will continue in its role as a standing entity enhancing disaster resilience and recovery and long-term disaster risk reduction.
