Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Review

Disasters are happening more often. They're also becoming more intense. This means we need to ensure that our recovery funding is up to the task of supporting affected communities.

We're working with each state and territory, and national stakeholders, to:

  • improve the national disaster recovery funding arrangements
  • build community resilience.

Reviewing the funding

The Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements made recommendations. These included making sure:

  • all Australians affected by disaster receive equal support
  • governments can respond quickly to disaster
  • communities can bounce back from disaster.

The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) Review follows these recommendations.

The government wants the DRFA to:

  • work well
  • help the right people
  • be available when severe disasters happen.

The Review will look at how to:

  • strengthen communities after a disaster
  • put money into ways to lower risks
  • make infrastructure stronger.
