Disaster management expert heads review of Disaster Governance

An Independent Review of National Natural Disaster Governance Arrangements has been commissioned by Australia’s emergency management ministers, to better prepare governments for the demands of increasing future natural disasters.

Flood recovery for Western Australia’s Kimberley region continues with the rollout of the next stage of temporary residential accommodation and the establishment of dedicated accommodation for workers, as flood-affected communities continue to rebuild.

Both temporary accommodation programs are jointly funded by the Albanese and Cook Governments through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DFRA).

Recovery grants for disaster-impacted farmers and small businesses

Disaster-impacted primary producers and small to medium-sized businesses in the Kimberley and Pilbara are now eligible for new recovery grants.

The two new grant programs have been made available to cover the costs of eligible clean-up and recovery efforts, for those impacted by Tropical Cyclone Ilsa or ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie this year.

More than 20,000 people seriously affected by the New South Wales floods that started in September last year have received over $33 million in Australian Government disaster support. Severe flooding across New South Wales impacted significant parts of the state causing damage to homes, properties, buildings, assets, infrastructure and businesses. To assist with the recovery, the Australian Government made disaster payments available for impacted people.

Councils across Australia will be able to fast-track local repair works following two devastating years of floods, fires and cyclones, with the Albanese Government to advance nearly $1.8 billion in disaster payments to the states.

The payments will help all levels of government get on with the massive job of repairing roads and essential public assets after years of disasters.

Golden beach seawall to be restored at Caloundra
