Work ramps up on the new Fitzroy River Bridge

The first sections of deck for the New Fitzroy River Bridge are on track to be installed next month, marking an important milestone in the delivery of the project.

The Albanese and Minns Governments have launched a $9.1 million grant program for community organisations and non-government organisations as they help flood-affected regions on their road to recovery.

The NGO Flood Recovery Program funding will go to service providers and non-government organisations in the Western, Murrumbidgee, Far West and New England districts as they continue to rebuild following the floods in August-September 2022.

Queensland homeowners impacted by significant recent flooding events are encouraged to register for up to $100,000 financial assistance to upgrade their homes, with two weeks remaining to sign up. 

The Resilient Homes Fund (RHF) supports eligible homeowners to retrofit or raise their homes so they can return to their normal lives sooner after floodwaters recede, with minimal disruption to family and finances. 

Another $10 million invested in Queensland resilience

Queensland communities are sharing in nearly $10.5 million to help build resilience and reduce the risk of natural disasters through the 2022-23 Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Fund (QRRRF).

The QRRRF will support 24 new resilience-building projects around the state and helps local governments mitigate and manage natural disaster risks, creating a stronger, safer and more resilient Queensland.

Gympie Netball scores $2.3 million for rebuild of flooded courts and clubhouse

Gympie Netball Association will see its flood-ravaged courts, lights and club facilities totally rebuilt to better withstand severe weather events in the future.

The whole site, with the exception of the female amenities building and one shade structure, will be demolished and replaced with more resilient infrastructure after 3.6 metre floodwaters inundated the site in February 2022.

Raised bridges, widened flood channels, and improved drainage in the townships of Woodburn, Coraki and Lismore are among the latest projects funded under a $150 million program from the Albanese Government to improve the flood resilience of the Northern Rivers.

Disaster Ready Fund invests in bushfire preparedness

More than $38 million dollars will be invested in bushfire preparedness across Victoria, through Round One of the Albanese Government’s signature Disaster Ready Fund (DRF).

Through the DRF, up to $200 million in Commonwealth funding is being made available per year over five years, from 2023-24, to reduce disaster risk and improve Australia’s resilience to natural disasters, with states, territories and delivery partners matching this investment, where possible.
