Helping disaster risk management planning and risk mitigation in North Queensland
The North Queensland Managing Disaster Risk Grants were announced in the 2020–21 budget as part of a $60 million package for five new grant programs to accompany the release of After the flood: A strategy for long-term recovery to support flood affected communities recovery from the 2019 North Queensland Monsoon Trough event.
Purpose
The North Queensland Managing Disaster Risk Grants provided $12 million in funding to improve disaster risk management planning and risk mitigation activities across the 14 Local Government Areas most flood affected following the 2019 North Queensland Monsoon Trough event.
Key dates
Rounds of the North Queensland Managing Disaster Risk Grants were opened under the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Fund, which also included funding available under the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework.
The 2021–22 round of the North Queensland Managing Disaster Risk Grants opened for expressions of interest on 22 November 2021 and closed 18 February 2022.

The North Queensland Managing Disaster Risk Grants are funded by the Australian Government's National Emergency Management Agency and administered by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
